James Mayhew

James Mayhew is the creator of the much-loved Katie and Ella Bella Ballerina series and many other books, including Koshka’s Tales, Miranda the Explorer and Boy. His best-selling Katie series is recognised is one of the best introductions to art for children and one which resonates with the Magic Lantern team. The series now sells in museums and galleries all over the world, from the Met, the Uffizi, the Louvre in Paris and beyond. Alongside his work in publishing, James has devised and performs in a hugely successful series of concerts for children, combining live classical music, storytelling and art.

Bill Murray

Bill Murray is best known for his performances in Ghostbusters, Ghostbusters II, Groundhog Day, Lost in Translation and all of Wes Anderson’s films to date including The Royal Tenenbaums, Moonrise Kingdom and The Grand Budapest Hotel. What is less known about him is that he is a longstanding supporter of the arts and art education. His association with Magic Lantern goes back to 2009 when he was taken on a tour of the National Gallery by the charity’s director Matthew Sanders.

 

 

 

Dr Janina Ramirez

Janina Ramirez is a British art and cultural historian and TV presenter. She specialises in interpreting symbols and examining works of art, within their own historical context. Janina has taught art history at York, Warwick, and is now Course Director for the Undergraduate Diploma and Certificate in History of Art at the University of Oxford. She combines teaching with research and broadcasting. She has written and presented many hours of television for the BBC. Her programmes include ‘Treasures of the Anglo-Saxons’, ‘The Viking Sagas’, ‘Saints and Sinners: A Millennium of Monasteries’ and ‘The Private Lives of Medieval Kings’.

Professor Will Vaughan

Will Vaughan is Emeritus Professor of History of Art at Birkbeck College, London and became Magic Lantern’s first Patron in 2013. Will has had an enormous influence on the Magic Lantern team having taught its two founder members and enlightened us all with his World of Art books on Gainsborough and The Golden Age of British Painting. He is also an accomplished print maker whose beautiful engravings are wonderful examples of the medium.
