Magic Lantern was founded in 1994.
Our History
Magic Lantern was founded in 1994 by Diana Schomberg (1933-2026) a former school teacher. Initially piloted in primary schools in South London, using a grant from Marks and Spencer, the charity had a remit to make art accessible to anyone.
The charity now offers workshops across the UK and works with over 12,000 children and adults per year.

The JM Barrie Award
In 2019 Magic Lantern was awarded with The JM Barrie Award by Action for Children’s Arts.
Awarded for twenty five years of helping people to observe and explore the world around them and to think creatively and critically through a series of art history workshops.
