How much do school workshops cost?
School workshops cost £75.
For new schools and in particular geographic regions we may be able to offer free or subsidised school, adult and teacher training workshops.

How long do school workshops last?
30-45 minutes for SEND groups
45 minutes for EYFS to Year 2
60 minutes for Year 3 to Year 6
How can I book a workshop?
Please fill in the form on our contact page to make a booking enquiry with details including school name, location, year group(s), topics and potential dates.
Do you offer workshops for secondary schools?
We specialise in working with Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2. However, in some geographic regions we also support Art and Design learning at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.

What can I expect in a school workshop?
Each workshop introduces children to 6-10 works of art that respond to a specific topic.
Sessions are fun and highly interactive with a range of elements including drama, soundscape, role-play, creative writing, drawing, problem solving, slow looking and critical thinking to enable children to look, think and talk about art.

Will we be making art?
Our workshops are not practical art making workshops and instead focus on oracy, critical thinking and problem solving.
Some sessions include a drawing element and all sessions are highly interactive with elements of drama, soundscape, creative writing and slow looking.
Where do school workshops take place?
Sessions take place in the classroom or school hall.
We need access to a whiteboard that all students can clearly see. Presentations are stored on PowerPoint and will be shared with the school in advance if required. There are no alternative classroom setup requirements.
Are workshops suitable for SEND learners?
Yes, our sessions are responsive and adaptive to all learners in the classroom. We can also adapt workshops for specialist SEND schools or SEN providers.
What topics do you offer for school workshops?
We have a wide range of Art and Design topics as well as Core and Foundation subjects.

Can we still access school workshops if you don’t have a workshop leader in our area?
Our workshops are interactive, discursive and designed to be delivered in person. For primary schools who wish to access our workshops but do not have a workshop leader in their area we can offer a 45 minute introductory online session for £50.

Do you offer workshops for adults?
Yes. We work with a range of adult groups and aim to show that anyone can enjoy art whether they are a seasoned gallery goer or a first time art viewer.
How much do adult workshops cost?
Adult workshops cost £75.
CPD workshops for teachers cost £150.
Who delivers the workshops?
Workshops are delivered by our team of Magic Lantern trained workshop leaders.
Each workshop leader is a dynamic communicator with a knowledge and passion for Art History and a background in education and/or the arts.
All workshop leaders hold current enhanced DBS checks.
I’m interested in becoming a workshop leader, are you currently recruiting and do you have more information?
Yes. We are looking for freelance workshop leaders to deliver art history sessions in primary schools across the country on behalf of Magic Lantern.
Successful candidates will be dynamic communicators, passionate about making art accessible to all, and enjoy engaging children in exciting and fun ways. Experience of working with young people is preferable. We particularly welcome applications from under-represented groups. The role would be ideal for a part-time museum/gallery educator or supply teacher wishing to expand their remit.

What safeguarding policies and insurance do you have in place?
Magic Lantern is fully committed to protecting and safeguarding vulnerable children and
adults and has rigorous policies in place to mitigate all risks. These include a
Safeguarding and Vulnerable Adults Policy and a Code of Conduct.
We adhere to recent updates on enhanced DBS checks and all our workshop leaders hold a current enhanced DBS check. We also hold public liability insurance.
Do you have a data protection policy?
Magic Lantern is a charity registered with the UK Charity Commission. We adhere to all provisions of The Data Protection Act 2018, the UK’s implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). We uphold the tenets enshrined in the Act to respect ‘data protection principles’ across our organisation.
We are particularly mindful of the principles of the Act and request requisite permissions in respect of data retention. As a fundraising charity we also strictly adhere to, and have guidance in place that ensures we uphold the Fundraising Regulator’s Standards that applies across all Fundraising.
